Alexis Austin is from Oklahoma City. She studied studio art at Oklahoma City University and fashion design at Columbia College in Chicago.

Textiles play an important role as part of her medium. The specific type of fabric frequently determines both the techniques employed and often the content as well. If the fabric has color, bleach is usually used. If its a wider weave like a course linen, paint gets pushed through the back. Bleach on bold colors usually inspire figurative childlike portraits while silk leads to more abstract work.

Her paintings can be dark or sardonic, usually inspired by thoughts and fears that are not typically shared with others.
